Help & how it works

Everything about registering, placement, and paying — in one place.

About the system

Write With Janet uses a simple online system for registration, class schedules, and payments. You register your child once, pick the class times that work for your family, and confirm your spot when Janet places your child in a class. The system keeps a running statement for your family — what's been charged, what you've paid, and any credit you're carrying — so you always know where things stand. There are no passwords to remember: you sign in with a link sent to your email.

See the whole journey as one map →

Enter your email on the sign-in page and we'll send you a link — clicking it signs you in. No password needed.

The link is for you only; please don't forward it. It stays good for a while, so there's no rush to click it the moment it arrives. If you don't see the email, check spam — and note that only the email we have on record works.

Your family's account is tied to one email address — the one you registered with. All sign-in links, placement offers, and receipts go there.

If you need to change it, contact Janet directly. You can't change it yourself — this protects your account.

Refunds are also sent to your email of record, so make sure this is the email you have registered with your bank for Zelle.

One page: your info, your child's info, and class-time preferences. You can save a draft and finish later.

Children in grade 4 and up need a Child's Gmail address for classwork — see Child's Gmail address below.

Pick as many time slots as possible to improve your chances of being placed. It also enables Janet to form better groups.

Children in grade 4 and up need their own Child's Gmail address for classwork.

This cannot be a school-issued address — school accounts block sharing with Janet, so Janet cannot review your child's writing. Use a personal Gmail account instead.

Placement and assessment consulting is separate from classes — it's one-on-one time with Janet, about what's getting in the way of your student's writing. It's billed at $145/hour, agreed before any time is booked.

Request one from the Consult page. Janet replies within a day or two.

When Janet places your child, you'll get an email with the class time and price.

Confirm to accept — this is when the charge is added to your statement. Decline puts your child back on the waitlist, and nothing is charged.

Send Zelle payments to JanetSummerWriting@gmail.com. Please include your child's name in the memo — it helps us match your payment quickly.

To pay by check, bring to class or mail to Janet Rose, 203 Chester St, Menlo Park, CA 94025.

Payments apply to your family's statement as a whole, not to a specific class. If you overpay, the extra automatically carries forward as a credit toward your next class.

Sign in and open your Family Statement page to see every charge, payment, and credit, newest first.

Checks you've given us that haven't cleared the bank yet are listed separately as pending until they clear — they're not yet reflected in your balance.

If you have a positive balance, you may request a refund from your Family Statement page.

Refunds are sent by Zelle to your email of record — the same email you use to sign in.

Important: many banks let you attach more than one email to your account for Zelle. If your email of record isn't yet registered with your bank for Zelle, you'll need to add it (in your banking app's Zelle settings) before a refund can reach you. We can't send refunds to a different address.

If you use a Flexible Spending Account, we can provide a receipt per child per calendar year showing what you paid.

Refunds are sent to your email of record, so make sure this email is registered with your bank for Zelle. Contact Janet.
